Hungary is considered the home of paprika and is the largest producer and exporter of paprika in the world. The country produces around 9,000-10,000 tons of paprika annually and exports around 80% of its production.

The production of paprika in Hungary is concentrated in the regions of Szeged and Kalocsa. The paprika is grown in small plots by farmers who have been growing paprika for generations. The paprika is harvested by hand and then dried in the sun or in special drying houses.

Hungarian paprika is known for its deep red color and rich flavor. The quality of Hungarian paprika is protected by the regulatory council of the Paprika National Council of Hungary.
